What/Who introduced you to djing?
In 1977 when i was 11 year old, there was a youth center in the town i lived with a basement club that was open saturday night and wednesday afternoon, i went with some of my mates that were a little older on a wednesday. i loved it! after that day i went home and started to go through my parents records to see if i can find anything that sounded like what i heard at the club. that’s when my search for records began and ultimately led me to want to play them to an audiance.
Did djing come first or were you producing before that?
djing came first,. i was playing guitar and drums in bands, but was always frustrated that it never sounded like the records i play, so when recording and production gear
became more accessible in the early 90’s i started to get into producing.
What’s was the scene like in Switzerland growing up?
i was living in basel, which is a very small city but it had some good moments
also zurich had some good things going on. in basel there was a club called
“totentanz” which i think was one of the best clubs at the time. i started djing there in 83, it was a very exiting place. people came from all over switzerland and even germany and france. the fashion was great to, i used to make a different outfit every
weekend, it was very competitive.
Is london better than New York?
hmm.. i could not say that either one is better. both cities have lot’s to offer.
i lived in NY for 15 years, i know it well. i have been in london only a year and a half.
I once tried a long distance relationship… It didn’t work out. Do you find it easy maintaining a long distance relationship with Alex. I presume you continue producing, fireing stuff over email?
Yes we still work long distance over internet and i find it very easy to work with alex that way.
Who is your hotly tipped new comer in the world right now?
generation of 1990

Nic Liu got into electronic music whilst working as a Manumission boy in Eivissa in his teens. He became an avid member of the now legendary Circo Loco parties in 2005 and from then on was hooked on underground house music. In 2006 he co founded a record label called ‘Love International’, more recently Nic has begun Djing and producing electronic music. He plays a mixture of disco, Techno and house, but we think his unique cocktail of genre bending dance music is what makes him so superb, and why he has recently been getting so much recognision. Nic has kindly recorded a mix just for us at the Nest. He has also given us a free mp3 of his edit of Purple Haze.
