The Supercool boys have certainly had a busy month. What with launching their joint record label project, Organic Art Movement, and preparing for their eagerly awaited Saturday takeover at The Nest, it’s clear Nic Liu, Tommi Anderson and Luke Black have been living according to the “sleep when you’re dead” philosophy.
Ahead of The Nest presents Supercool this Saturday, Nic Liu has kindly mixed down a little promo MP3 of his soon to be released ‘We Are Different’ EP. The solo work, comprising of three original tracks and a Matthew Burton remix, proudly takes the fledgling label’s 001 classification and is set to be released through all digital outlets and on wax at the end of this month.
Dark disco techno is the name of the game on ‘We Are Different’ as Liu meanders through contrapuntal bass guitar riffs and ominous childlike vocals. The distant, tinny cymbals on ‘Closer’ and the underwater, electronic ambience created on ‘Can’t Believe It’ are linked by a sinister yet driving bassline that unites the three tracks. Simply put, this is an impressive debut for the OAM imprint and the promo below is well worth a listen.

Relative newcomer, Nick Warren, has been known to turn Nest ravers into a collective body; a united breathing, boogying entity. With intelligent and surprising selections (from Instra:mental to Jozif and everything in between) and a deep-seated appreciation of chugging, downtempo beats, his sets epitomise our Saturday night vibe.
He joins Space’s We Love resident, Jem Haynes, and Potty Mouth Disco’s Red Ben within our basement brickwork this weekend and has kindly given us a free mix download ahead of the occasion. We advise you to lend your ears to this little gem as Warren takes you on an enduring journey through sexy, sad and all the way back again.

For all those who can’t wait until Scandalism this Friday, check out this 48 minute wonder Alex Metric whipped up especially for the occasion. In his own words:
“To celebrate my DJ-ing return to London at The Nest this Friday 18th Feb, I’ve done a mix for your listening pleasure. Some records I will play on Friday, some I won’t , but it’s a good excuse to put some great music together. X”
MTA Records have edited a ridiculously high-voltage video of the last party they held at The Nest back in December. Featuring the likes of Chase & Status, Nero, 16Bit, MC Rage, Plan B, Takura, Redlight and Tango on what can only be described as a pure HYPE TING, if this viral snippet doesn’t get you in the mood for this Thursday’s MTA takeover then we’re not sure what will. With special guests kept firmly under wraps until the night in question, expect a heady mix of big boy surprises and bad man bass.
This Thursday sees MTA artists Nero and 16Bit take to The Nest’s monster soundsystem. Plus, in true MTA style, they’ll be spinning alongside a whole host of undisclosed artists, the first of which has been revealed as the legendary DJ EZ! To say we’re excited about the launch night of Adam Freeland’s residency at The Nest would be the understatement of 2011. Gossip has been buzzing around the office for some time: “What special guests will he be inviting?”, “How is his first 4 hour solo session going to pan out?” etc etc. So ahead of his Kaleidoscope launch on 25th February, Mr Freeland has prepared a mix exclusively for The Nest blog readers to give a hint towards how his Friday night parties are set to shape up. We also had a good old chinwag with the man himself so be sure to check the full interview after the jump!
The Nest Mix – Adam Freeland by Thenest on Mixcloud
The Nest: So do you prefer living in L.A. or sunny brighton?
Adam Freeland: Well, I miss the sun of California and the buzz of LA. But I love the English depth of culture; bonds run deeper here and I do have a lovely place overlooking the sea.
TN: Life on the road can be a pretty hectic schedule for some DJs and you seem to be touring all the time. How do you cope? (no pun intended!)
AF: Ha! Well I don’t always. It’s all about balance. I spend as much time as possible doing the exact opposite of clubs and airports, such as surfing, cooking and time in nature listening to VERY chilled music.
TN: Recently you’ve been performing alongside artists such as Apparat, High Rankin and spinning tunes from the likes of Scuba and Ramadanman. How are you enjoying this new musical direction?

This Saturday sees the Busta Groove boys, Matthew Burton and Nick Lawson, host a night of downtempo, deep house selections alongside acclaimed underground artists BLM and Soho. To up the sensory experience (and in light of the imminent V-day revelry), we at The Nest have decided to transform our basement into a crimson love haven. Mix stimulating visuals with bump and grind inducing beats and you’ve got a cataclysmic rave-up on your hands.
Fresh off the back of his Who Loves You release on Sammy Dee’s vinyl only label, Ultrastretch, Matthew Burton has recorded us an exclusive mix ahead of his takeover this Saturday. Raw sounding grooves, unknown white label productions and a track list to get your heart pumping, we urge you to get your download on. Track listing after the jump!

We’re all waiting on tenter hooks for the next Lively takeover this Friday with house fusion fanatics Riva Starr and Julio Bashmore. Quite frankly, our ears can’t take the anticipation and need a daily dose of dance to see us through to the weekend. Cue Riva Starr rummaging through his digital treasure chest and unearthing a free MP3 download of his ‘The End’ edit by The Doors. The buoyant beat takes away from the solemnity of the original, and the drive of swelling sounds and static really do make for a bit of a banger.
