Ex-Aeroplane frontman and all around disco babe, The Magician, is set to headline this month’s Scandalism on Friday alongside Starsmith, Russ Chimes, The C90’s and many more. We caught up with him for a quick chinwag ahead of the party; give it a read below whilst listening to his latest instalment of Magic mix tapes.
The Nest: Tell us a bit about your upbringing with the disco sound. Do you think you’d still be a DJ/producer today without disco’s influence from so early on?
The Magician: Disco sounds are my roots, I wake up with it and I go bed with it. It’s because when I was young, the first records I got were from that Disco Era. I started to mix disco records with house and acid house records when I was 13.
TN: How did the idea for your Magic Tapes come about? What did you initially hope to achieve from them and do you think it’s important to frequently give something back to your supporters?
TM: I’ve been putting together mixtapes since I started DJing. The first ones were for friends and then I went on to use them to promote me as DJ in Belgium and then for Aeroplane. So it was obvious that I follow it with The Magician. I called them Magic Tapes, it was not too difficult to name them
.
For me it’s important because I share lots of new music, even unreleased stuff and also what I play as a DJ.
TN: There seems to be a growing trend of DJs reluctant to provide track listings for their mixes. Why do you choose not to provide track listings to your Magic Tapes?
TM: Because a Magician never reveal his tricks!

Deep house diva and all around Russian babe, Womso, is back to headline The Nest this Saturday alongside Simon Morell and Mike OK. This is a DJ and bootleg maestro who’s had success in a plethora of sectors of the British underground, from minimal techno sets to hosting her own deep house parties jitterbug and Kismet Disco.
She has kindly put together a last minute, exclusive taster mix to get you in the mood for Saturday’s proceedings. With the sunshine flooding through the windows and a warm breeze enveloping your flip-flop clad toes, you’d be mad not to listen to this.
Tickets for this Saturday’s party are available here – and apologies for the lack of track list… it’s all the rage now ya’kno.

Maria & Josef, Rosi’s, Cocoon, Social Club, Panorama Bar… If Oliver $ was dating Berlin-based clubbing hotspots, he’d be a serial cheater. We’re not in a position to reproach him, however, as he’s set to headline our basement boogie hut this Friday for this month’s Lively takeover with Firas & Jay Karim, Rachel barton and Nockall. His sets are ocean-deep and full of forward thinking house, and he’s been known to shock crowds by ending his shows with a sneaky reggae jam so we know The Nest’s dance floor minions will be eating out the palm of his hand this week. With an album set to drop on Loungin Records under his Chubby Dubz alias later this month, we’ve got hold of two free-to-download, Oliver $ teaser tracks in preparation. Get your download on people, these edits are alive with funky, Bond-style cinematic melodies and beats to make your feet itch.
